Hunter Douglas Parkland® Wood Blinds

Debating between blinds and shades can make a big impact on the interior design and style of your home. While we love both options (enough to make them our business), it's important to know the pros and cons of blinds vs. shades.

Blinds vs. Shades

The Similarities of Blinds and Shades

At their base, both types of window treatments serve the same purpose: they provide you and your home with light control, privacy, and UV protection. Additionally, both have near limitless material and design styles.

You can hang blinds and shades alone or pair a custom curtain to provide more style, color, and energy efficiency options. Both window coverings offer motorization options (one of our favorite home additions) to give you complete control.

The good news here is that there truly isn't a bad option available. All the blinds and shades we have available are high quality and add benefit to any home. An extra Stamper's special we offer is to bring the window coverings to your home so that you can see how they match your interior before you buy.

How Blinds and Shades are Different

Blinds

Blinds are easy to clean and, in most places, can stay clean with a light dusting. Like shades, they can be raised or lowered with a loop cord or a cordless operating system. You can also tilt the vanes to allow more or less light and give you a view-through area. They can be stained in a multitude of colors, and if you need a patterned fabric, vertical blinds come in materials that offer a pattern.

Some vertical blinds like our Cadence® Soft Vertical Blinds are designed to mimic soft drapery folds. Some of our soft shadings, including Luminette® or Silhouette® shadings, are designed for more elegant rooms. Other blinds are more of a hard window treatment. They will not blow if the window is open; they are designed to last and stay in good condition.

Shades

Shades come in more designs and types than blinds. You can choose between a variety of Roman shades, cellular shades, or more modern roller shades. Besides the varying products, materials, and designs, shades also have more operating systems. With these window fashions, you can enjoy a top-down, bottom-up approach that blinds don't offer and some blinds come with two layers, so you can enjoy even more variations to your view.

Most soft window treatments come in both translucent and opaque fabrics. You can also choose to line your shades or use room-darkening material. This gives you more options for light control, diffused light, and a variety of darkening options. Although blinds have many of the same features as shades, shades come with a few extra bells and whistles that make them appealing.

Custom Window Treatments

You may have realized by now that not all your windows are the same size. Finding ready-made window treatments to fit all your windows is virtually impossible. At Stamper's Blinds Gallery, all our window treatments are made to order, customized to fit your windows, and operated the way you design them. From choosing the fabric or material to picking the operating system that raises and lowers them, you can create a perfect match for your taste and style.

Choosing Blinds or Shades

There are many different things to consider when choosing custom window treatments. Things like light control, privacy, and energy efficiency are important. The color, texture, pattern, and materials you choose are also important. Whether you want more color in your window treatments or you want them to be more neutral, blinds and shades from Hunter Douglas always create a "wow" factor.

Quality Window Treatments

Aside from being able to customize your window treatments, investing in a quality product is essential to your home's value. If you can't get your store-bought blinds to operate, or they fall apart a year after you purchase them, you haven't accomplished much.

At Stamper's, not only do we stand behind our window treatments, but our products are backed by the Hunter Douglas lifetime guarantee, which is the best in the window treatment industry. Hunter Douglas is an industry leader in quality, innovation, and beautiful window treatments.
